AI video search helps an NVR identify and retrieve relevant footage based on detected objects, events or visual characteristics.
A typical AI video-search workflow involves five stages:
1. Video capture
Compatible IP cameras capture and encode the video before transmitting it to the NVR over the network.
2. Video analysis
AI algorithms in the camera, the NVR or both analyse the footage. Depending on the supported equipment, the system may distinguish people and vehicles, detect perimeter events or extract searchable visual attributes.
3. Metadata creation
The system associates detected targets and events with information such as camera location, date, time, object category and event type.
4. Search query
The operator selects an event filter, marks a target in recorded footage or enters a text or voice description, depending on the NVR’s supported search technology.
5. Ranked results and playback
The NVR searches the indexed video metadata and returns matching clips or snapshots, allowing the operator to review likely results instead of watching the complete recording.
Hikvision AcuSearch is designed to improve target-based retrieval and playback efficiency. Smart Search supports searches across recorded frames and events. On compatible VPro Series NVRs, AcuSeek allows users to search with natural-language text or voice descriptions for a specific object or scene.
Available search functions vary by NVR model, firmware, connected camera and system configuration.
